There are numerous beach clubs to visit all within a short distance from Kalkan harbour, connected via free shuttle boats. There's also the white pebbled town beach which has crystal clear water and parasols to hire for shade. Jet skis and waterskis are also available to hire from nearby beach clubs.
Kaputas beach - formed by a gorge that opens on to a stretch of sand - is only 7km from Kalkan and can be reached by dolmus (bus) from Kalkan. This a quite a spectacular beach quite renowned in the area.
Saklikent gorge is 18kms long (4km walkable) and 300m deep. It is 20-30 minutes drive from Kalkan. An amazing day out but please bring suitable footwear!
If you enjoy being on the water then it is worth spending a day canoeing on the Xanthos river which starts deep in Saklikent Gorge and winds into Patara Beach.
Further up into the mountains is Tlos - an ancient ruined Lycian hilltop citadel which is more than 4,000 years old. There are many trout farms in the mountains, particularly Ishlamlar, and visiting these is a authentic way to enjoy freshly-caught local food, adire the scenery and get a chance to cool down a little too!
The town of Kas (pronounced "cash") is a 30-minute drive along a breathtaking coastal road. Larger than Kalkan; it has a harbour, beach clubs and a newly-built marina.
Fethiye is a port city located 80 km from Kalkan. It boasts a vast array of shops, including a large market, and restaurants. As with Kas, don't be surprised to see ancient sarcophagus in the streets amongst all the traffic and tourists.
